Nature has been proven to have profound effects on one’s mental and physical health. Unfortunately, due to various risks, seniors residing in assisted living have limited opportunities to get outside and in nature. This means that seniors are lacking access to numerous health benefits that could significantly improve their health and quality of life.
Did you know?
Benefits associated with connecting with nature include:
- Energy and immunity improvement
- Helping with seasonal affective disorder (including anxiety, exhaustion and sadness)
- Reducing stress
- Improving sleep
- Boosting self-esteem
- Improving focus and creativity
Considering this, the overall quality of care and life for many seniors in Calgary could improve from connecting them with nature.
Although not quite as effective as getting outside, bringing the outdoors indoors provides comparable benefits and avoids the risks of physically getting outdoors.
